My Friend Earth by Patricia MacLachlan - This book is one of the most gorgeous books on our spring shelves this season. Our friend Earth does so many wonderful things! She tends to animals large and small. She pours down summer rain and autumn leaves. She sprinkles whisper-white snow and protects the tiny seeds waiting for spring. Readers of all ages will pore over the interactive pages of this spectacular book. A perfect book to remind us of our gratitude for nature while reminding us to be kind in return.
Paired with seed paper, soil & gardening tools to grow your own plant. Plant care in a Montessori environment is meant to inspire a child's participation in the world around them. Plant care doesn't have to be a big deal or take up a lot of space. It's really one of those beautiful, organic ways that a child can participate in your home. It gives children the opportunity to notice small changes, to remember how to fix the problem, and the satisfaction of caring for the plant and their environment once the task is completed. There are obviously very natural consequences to not taking care of the plant.
We hope this little activity inspires conversations from the books to growing your own plant with gratitude, appreciation, curiosity and wonder of the world around your little babe!
